914

Nothing better than Sundays. It's time to relax and gear up for the week to come. I wanted to post a couple of photos that I took from yesterday's show. This was the first time Katemade and Ontology teamed up to create our pop up business called "Badlands" which features our vintage, handmade things and cupcakes/cookies. It's pretty fantastic. There will be more info on that to come!

Pictures of our booth and the last photo is Frances from Venus Meets Vintage modeling one of my jackets that I swapped her for some fabulous dresses. She was also the one who pulled this whole trunk show together! So great thanks to her for a fun day at 914.

I'll post more new items tomorrow! Until then...siesta.

Consistency

Things that I'm working on: trying to post everyday with updates on my blog and etsy. Things that I'm hoping for: warm weather.

Feeling a little under the weather today, folks. I'm thinking I'll bounce back by this weekend. I have a nice curry stew going as you read this and I cannot wait to dig into that spicy warm goodness. Also, I picked up an amazing original copy of Mississippi Fred McDowell "I don't play no rock n' roll" on vinyl the other day, so things are alright.
More good news is I'll be at space 914 this Saturday with my lovely friend Kate from Katemade. We will be selling our vintage items, handmade things and wait for it......BAKED GOODS!!! Yeah, it's going to be pretty awesome. Haven't decided exactly on what I'll be baking, but I know Kate is creating some tasty chocolately cookies and I'm contemplating banana split cupcakes. So, if that isn't enough to get you to go, I don't know what is.

Here's the info:

And of course I cannot leave you without a couple of new items that will be for sale at the show and online at my store.

Matilda

I got a vintage Acme dress form today and I couldn't be more excited. Her name is Matilda. I didn't name her, but another Jen, owner of Pandora's Box in Wilmette did. Her tiny figure and perky breasts just scream "Matilda", I guess...so, Matilda she stays.
She will be helping me with photos and displays from here on out. Also, this is my chance to finally take up sewing. It was about time invest in one.
After I got back from my knitting class tonight I decided to take more photos of some new items I have for sale. These will be posted on my etsy. Enjoy!

Trunk Show Success

First of all, I want to thank everyone who came out to the Vintage Heaven sale yesterday! I was really surprised by how many people were there and the amount of support I received from the vendors and customers. Many ideas and collaborations are in the works, so stay posted for what's to come. As a hint...has something to do with men's clothes, cupcakes and handmade fun. Bottom line: it was a very enjoyable day.

I still have a good amount of spring pieces that will be posted on etsy this coming week. If you didn't get a chance to make it out to the sale, you can find some really great items for sale at my shop!

More great news, I picked up what quit possibly may be the greatest sweater of all time yesterday and wanted to share it with all of you.

I owe a special thanks to Jennifer from jenstyle and Aly from Bow La Beau for this great outfit that I cannot wait to show off!

Spring picks!

Finally, a serious photo update! These are some of my favorite items that will be available for purchase at the Heaven Gallery on Saturday, March 19th. A lot of dresses, skirts, sweater shirts (yeah, that's right!), light-weight tops, 80's shorts, spring jackets (guys and gals) and great selection of guys button downs will be for sale. Hell, I'm even selling a really sweet vintage portable cassette player and electric organ for all you fellow music nerds. There will be a wide array of things at my stand, so PLEASE come by if you're free! There will be something for everyone...except children, but perhaps I will venture there in the future. Did I mention all my prices are below $50? I'm not here to rip you people off, I'm here to spread the love of vintage. As a matter of fact, most items average out to $15 and you'll still be walking away with something rad.

Here's the ad for the upcoming Vintage Heaven sale:

If you'd like to read Vintage Heaven's post on Ontology as a featured seller which includes more photos of items for sale and an interview, click here:

And now, for the photos. I owe a special thanks for my talented friends Stacie (model) and Kelli (photographer) for producing these lovely pictures on short notice!

Denim Mini with an embroidered check flower. What up, Spring?

Feeling victorian, much?
or maybe you could channel Prince with this one....

Classic polka dot. Also, come July 4th you'll want to be wearing this with red heels.

This is the prettiest 80's sweater....EVER.
In case you love flowers as much as I do, you can start a collection.

I like to call this the "Birthday Dress" but smokin' hot, also works.

Don't need to say much for this one. Featuring Miss Izzy, the cat of all cats.

Gorgeous flow to this dress. Maybe a little country.
(till the land Stac)

That's all for this one, folks! SEE YOU NEXT SATURDAY!

Teaser

Getting things organized. March 19th at Vintage Heaven.

First Post

Here we are...at the beginning of Ontology's blog. Here you will find posts that dive deep into the core of Ontology's mission as a vintage store, stories of exploration and inspiration. It's going to be fun, so make sure to check back frequently! In fact, to make your life simpler you may as well just add Ontology to your friend's list. Since this is the first post, there will be a bit to cover. Don't be afraid though, just read on...

Let's start from the beginning. The idea of Ontology started a long time ago when creator, Jennifer Polus (aka the person who's typing this...it's rather strange speaking in third person, but when telling a story it seems essential at times) started wearing clothes she'd find in her mother's closet. Her mother is a brilliant woman who also lived in Chicago back when she was a smokin' 20-something year old with impeccable style. Although years later she ended up moving to Green Bay, WI to live a simple life with her husband and brand new baby girl, she found it important to hold on to her favorite items from when she was a city slicker. By doing this she allowed her daughter to discover these treasures later on when she grew old enough to develop her own genuine sense of self. Guess what happened when her daughter started wearing her mother's (now) vintage clothes? She fell in love. Yes, ladies and gentlemen...from the moment she slipped on her mother's rainbow patterned spaghetti strap dress, she would say "goodbye" to malls and "hello" to thrift stores.
For years now, Jen has been collecting all things vintage from stores and closets all over the states. Only until about a year ago now she thought to herself "I should really share this with others". Not that she was intentionally hoarding, but finally came to an understanding that if she enjoys vintage so much, others must too. So, by finding these people she hopes to connect with humans on a greater level. She's filled with joy in finding something she personally enjoys and seeing that someone else likes it just as much. In these moments, there is some sort of mental connection and it is lovely.
And that is how Ontology was created.

Now, on places where you can purchase Ontology goods. The store's current focus will be on selling at Vintage Heaven (at the Heaven Gallery in Wicker Park) every month. Also, there will (almost) always be items online at Etsy and eBay. Auctions for eBay will be announced on this blog as well as any new items that are being posted on Etsy.

Women's AND Men's clothes will be for sale. This isn't just a ladie's store! Guys, I'm looking out for your vintage interest as well. Things related to music and home will also be offered.

That is all for this first post. Updates with pictures of clothes and things I find interesting to come in the near future.
